The Chemical Properties Of Paraffin Wax

Apr 18, 2023

Paraffin wax is a mixture of solid higher alkanes, with the molecular formula of CnH2n+2 as the main component, where n=17-35. The main components are straight chain alkanes, as well as a small amount of alkanes with individual branched chains and monocyclic alkanes with long side chains; The straight chain alkanes are mainly n-docosane (C22H46) and n-neneneba octacosane (C28H58).
Paraffin does not react with common chemical reagents, but can burn. Catalytic cracking reactions can occur in industry.
Paraffin wax has low chemical activity, is neutral, and has stable chemical properties. Under normal conditions, it does not react with acids except nitric acid and alkaline solutions.
